School Resource Officer (SRO)

Hello!

My name is Andrew Matter, and I am the School Resource Officer (SRO) for West Allis Central High School for the 2025-2026 school year.  I have been proudly working in the capacity of the SRO at Central High School since January of 2023.

I graduated from West Allis Central High school in 1999 and UW Oshkosh in 2004.  I have been a law enforcement officer for 19 years.  Before I made the transition to the SRO at Central, I served the West Allis Police Department on 1st shift patrol, 2nd shift patrol, the SWAT team, and as an instructor for new and veteran officers.  Prior to working for West Allis, I worked for the State Fair Police Department in the patrol division.

Outside of work, I enjoy hunting, fishing, spending time with my family, and cheering for WI sports teams.

A question I’m frequently asked is:

“When should I contact the police or report something to the SRO?”

My recommendation is:

If the incident happens outside of school hours or off school grounds, please contact the WAPD directly.  WAPD officers will then communicate with me if any additional information/follow up is needed.

If the incident occurs during the school day, or your student is on campus outside of school hours, then reach out to report the situation to the SRO and/ or the school.

Please don’t worry about whether an issue is “too minor” to report.  We would much rather address a situation early before it has a chance to escalate into something more serious.

I am excited to be returning as the SRO at Central for the 2025-2026 school year and I look forward to working with the Central High school community and contributing to a safe and positive school environment!
